Sparky Koerner and his “Jazz Express” are one of the most highly respected musical groups in the Galveston / Houston Texas area. They can be heard in restaurants, local clubs, parties, wedding receptions, social gatherings and any occasion where good musical entertainment is desired. They have a wide repertoire of music that can be performed for your special occasion. Sparky’s Jazz Express was formed when Sparky moved to Galveston in 1980 to work for the Galveston Arts Center. The group developed a reputation for playing at a professional level. They quickly became a popular group for cocktail parties and dinner events. They play with a sensitive feel for the audience making sure that the volume is not too loud and one can continue to carry on a conversation. Yet if the situation calls for it they can get you up on the dance floor with great big band favorites, beautiful ballads great Latin Bossa Nova’s and a wide variety of other selections. They have been one of Galveston’s favorite groups for the Galveston Historical Foundation, The Texas Sea Port Museum, The Lone Star Flight Museum, Haak Vineyard & Winery, The City of Galveston, Texas City Arts Festival and at various University of Texas Medical Branch function over the years. The “Jazz Express” performed on the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat dock in Galveston during their Dinner/Dance Cruise from 1985-1995. The group is currently performing and hosting a jazz jam the 2nd Tuesday of the month starting October 14, 2010 from 7 pm to 10 pm at the Texas Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake 2000 NASA Pkwy, Nassau Bay, TX 77058. Come out and listen to some great jazz and if you play bring your horn and sit in.
